Door repairs & carpentry in Birmingham
A door that sticks, drops or will not catch can have several causes. Hinges can wear, frames can move slightly, and a door that was fine in summer may start catching later in the year.
Most door repairs start with finding out what actually changed. A door that catches at the top is a different problem from one that catches along the latch edge, and easing the wrong part is how you end up with a gap you cannot close. We look at the hinges, the frame and the way the door is hanging before taking anything off it.
Hinge and handle replacement is straightforward when the replacement matches. Send us a photo of the existing hinge or handle — hinge sizes and handle spindle lengths vary more than people expect, and the right part first time is the difference between one visit and two.
Minor carpentry covers the smaller timber work around a home: a strip of trim, a repair to a frame, an adjustment that needs a plane rather than a screwdriver. Larger carpentry is quoted individually once we have seen what is involved.

About this kind of work
- My door has dropped and catches on the floor. Can that be fixed?
- Often, yes. Loose or worn hinges are one possible cause, but we first check how the door is sitting in the frame before deciding what adjustment or repair is needed. Send a photo of the door closed and the hinges and we may be able to give you a better idea before the visit.
- Can you fit a door I have bought myself?
- Yes. If you've already bought the door, send us the size and details when requesting a quote. A new door may need trimming and new hinge positions cut, so it takes longer than a straightforward repair and will be priced accordingly.
- Do you repair external doors?
- We can look at certain repairs and adjustments to external doors. Send photos showing the problem and we'll confirm whether it's within the type of work Woody takes on.
