Bathroom & Plumbing

Bathroom repairs & minor plumbing in Birmingham

Most bathroom jobs are small, and most of them are the kind that get worse quietly: a tap that drips, sealant that has gone black, a radiator that never quite warms up.

Tap replacement is a common bathroom job, but the tap itself is not always the part that determines how straightforward the work will be. Isolation valves, the age of the existing connections and how much room there is behind the pedestal all matter. A photo underneath tells us more than a photo of the basin.

Failed or lifted sealant can allow water into areas where it shouldn't be, potentially turning a small re-sealing job into a larger repair if it is left. Old sealant is cut out completely, the surface cleaned and dried, and a new bead laid in one pass.

Vanity units and bathroom accessories are fitting jobs where the wall matters. Bathroom walls are often tiled onto plasterboard, which changes both the fixing and the drilling — the wrong approach cracks a tile that then has to be matched.

Minor plumbing covers small leaks, isolation valves, radiator bleeding and similar work. Anything larger is looked at first and quoted on what is actually there.

Questions

About this kind of work

Do you work on boilers?
No. We do not carry out gas or boiler work of any kind. That has to be a suitably registered engineer, and we will say so rather than take the job on.
The sealant around my bath has gone black. Can it just be sealed over?
We don't seal directly over failed or mouldy sealant. The old bead is removed, the surface is cleaned and dried properly, and fresh sealant is applied. That gives the new sealant a properly prepared surface rather than simply covering the existing problem.
Can you fix a dripping tap rather than replace it?
Sometimes, depending on the tap and what has worn. On many modern mixers the cartridge is replaceable; on others a replacement tap is the more sensible repair. We'll assess what is causing the drip and explain whether repair or replacement is the sensible option before carrying out additional work.
